Safety Information

In recent years the use of microwavable Wheat Bags has grown in popularity and many homes own at least one. Time has shown that with care a Wheat Bag can have lasting use over several years so long as the wheat is not dried out. If a Wheat Bag is used regularly it is recommended that the wheat be re-hydrated every few days by heating it in the microwave alongside a small cup of hot water.

We do not recommend the use of fragrant oils in a microwave oven as this can add to the risks associated with over-heating and could lead to spontaneous ignition. If you would like to add a fragrance to your Wheat Bag we suggest using a small sachet of dried flowers or herbs such as lavender or rosemary, inside the outer cover of the Wheat Bag. This can be replaced as the scent fades.

If the Wheat Bag has been heated in a conventional oven then it should not be heated in a microwave again but should be replaced.

Example of instruction sheet included with items purchased
Your new wheat pouch is filled with pure, natural wheat. The grains contain a small amount of moisture, allowing them to be heated in a microwave oven or chilled in a freezer. Until your wheat pouch has been heated a few times it will be a little damp and steamy. Allow the steam to evaporate and the moisture will diminish. Care must be taken when heating the wheat pouch, not to exceed the recommended, maximum heating time of 3 minutes in an 800 watt microwave oven. Over-heating will cause the wheat to dry out completely which could lead to spontaneous ignition. You may replace moisture in the wheat by heating the wheat pouch along with a cup of water. We do not recommend adding fragrance oil to the wheat pouch as this can increase the risks associated with over-heating. If you would like to add a fragrance, simply pop a sachet of dried flowers or herbs such as lavender or rosemary inside the outer cover of your wheat pouch.
